Chandigarh, June 15, 2025: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Leader Baltej Pannu strongly criticized Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal, for advocating for a "dande wala" (dictatorial) Chief Minister for Punjab. Pannu in his statement exposed the anti-people policies and controversial legacy of Sukhbir Singh Badal’s tenure as Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister.
“By suggesting Punjab needs a Chief Minister who rules with a 'danda', Sukhbir Singh Badal seems to imply he wants someone who mirrors his own tenure, a leader who lathicharges teachers and unemployed youth." said Pannu. He reminded the public of the Akali Dal government’s record of violence against peaceful protestors, stating, “Does Punjab need a Chief Minister who orders to open fire and sewage water cannons against unarmed citizens? Does Punjab need someone who would suppress voices demanding justice for Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s desecration?”
Pannu accused Sukhbir Badal of pushing Punjab into a dark abyss during his time in power. He highlighted the nexus between drug mafias and the Akali leadership, stating, “Does Punjab need a Chief Minister who shelters drug dealers while watching the state’s youth drown in addiction? Sukhbir Badal’s administration was a trailer of disaster, where jobs were sold, corruption thrived, and people’s voices were crushed.”
Taking a dig at Badal’s alliances with controversial figures and deras for political gains, Pannu added, “Do we want a Chief Minister who compromises Punjab’s dignity for votes? Someone who prioritizes his political survival over the state’s well-being?”
Baltej Pannu also questioned Badal’s audacity to claim moral high ground after failing to protect the state’s honor and interests during his tenure. “Punjab has not forgotten the betrayal, incompetence, and arrogance of Sukhbir Singh Badal’s government. Punjabis have rejected his ‘danda-rule’ ideology and are building a progressive, people-centric Punjab under the Aam Aadmi Party.”
