Bal Sansad Members of GMSSS cemetery road meet DC, raise issues
DC promises swift action, lauds students

Ludhiana, July 16, 2025: In a remarkable display of leadership, elected members of the Bal Sansad (Children’s Parliament) from Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Cemetery Road, met with Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain to voice concerns affecting their school.
The Bal Sansad, a pioneering initiative to foster participatory governance and leadership among students, has been established in 50 government schools across Ludhiana. This program empowers young leaders to identify challenges and propose solutions within their school environment.
The delegation was led by Ashish (Class 10-A, Speaker), Tahira (Class 10-C, Prime Minister), Mahi (Class 10-A, Minister for Girl Empowerment), Abhishek (Class 8-C, Minister for Health and Sanitation), and Ananya (Class 8-C, Minister for Health and Sanitation). They were accompanied by Principal Charanjeet Kaur Ahuja and teacher Navpreet Kaur.
During the meeting, the students confidently presented a well-articulated list of issues faced by their school community, including need for a speed breaker in front of the school, installation of a sign board for school visibility on roads, deployment of a traffic policeman for student safety, provision of separate washroom and drinking water facilities for younger children, support with school fees for 100 students, more books of the school library, especially with books for competitions, appointment of a security guard for the second school gate and etc.
The Deputy Commissioner lauded the formation of Bal Sansad as an excellent step towards cultivating civic responsibility, leadership, and participatory democracy among students. He appreciated the clarity, confidence, and compassion with which the young leaders presented their demands.
Himanshu Jain assured the students and accompanying staff that all genuine requirements would be addressed promptly. He also instructed the concerned officers to take immediate action on the highlighted issues in coordination with the Education Department and other relevant agencies.
This interaction underlined the commitment of the district administration to promoting child-led governance and making schools safer, more inclusive, and nurturing for every student.
