Awareness Campaign for environmental responsibilities

Nauni, December 30, 2021: The Department of Environmental Science, Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry under the Institutional Development Plan(IDP) of the university organized a one-day Awareness Campaign for environmental responsibilities which was followed by a campus cleanliness drive in which 215 students took part.
Prof. SK Bhardwaj, Head, Department of Environmental Science said that to make the campus clean and green there is a need to promote environmentally friendly practices along with relevant education. He advocated the need to have an emotional affinity towards nature. 

Various activities like declamation, skit and model-making competitions were organized on the occasion. Priyanka Sharma, B Sc Forestry bagged the first prize in declamation contest on the theme Climate Change Mitigation through Forestry, while the skit prepared by Suraj, Ashish, Rajat, Priyanka, Darshana and Swastika on the topic- Beat Plastic Pollution was adjudged first. The model prepared by Rajat, Priyanka and Swastika on the theme Urban Waste management stood first. Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh, District Programme Officer, Regional Hospital Solan also delivered a talk on Air Pollution and Human Health to the students. 

A cleanliness drive was also undertaken by the students of B Sc Forestry 4th year along with the faculty of the Department of Environmental Science and SPACE club. Dr. KK Raina, Principal Investigator, IDP was the Chief Guest of the campaign while Dr. Jyoti Gupta of Cluster University, Mandi was the Guest of Honour. Dr. Raina encouraged the students about their environmental responsibilities and pointed out that under the IDP, many green initiatives have been taken to make the campus clean and green so that quality education can be imparted to the students. He also informed that to reduce the ecological footprints e-carts have been put in action to supplement transport activities on the campus and plantation drive is being undertaken regularly. Solar lights have been installed and solar rooftop harvesting has also been done. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Pratima Vaidya and Dr. Hukam Chand Sharma.
