Around 100 villages in Ferozepur hit by floods; Over 3300 rescued
With the rising water level in the Sutlej, nearly 100 villages in this district have been severely affected by floods. The district administration, with the support of the Army, BSF, NDRF and Punjab Police, has been carrying out round-the-clock relief and rescue operations.

Ferozepur, August 31, 2025: With the rising water level in the Sutlej, nearly 100 villages in this district have been severely affected by floods. The district administration, with the support of the Army, BSF, NDRF and Punjab Police, has been carrying out round-the-clock relief and rescue operations.
Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma said that so far, around 3300 people stranded in floodwaters have been safely rescued. "Relief camps have been set up across the district where about 350 flood victims are being provided food and essential supplies, while nearly 3,000 families have received dry rations", said DC.
“The main road leading to the Hussainiwala Retreat Ceremony site has been badly damaged due to floodwaters, and repair work is underway to restore connectivity”, DC said adding that the Punjab Government has deployed officials from various departments to ensure seamless relief operations, with funds already released to SDMs for immediate assistance.
The DC informed that rescue teams of the NDRF, Army, and BSF are actively engaged in evacuating marooned villagers with the help of boats and other equipment, while repeated appeals are being made to people to shift to safer and higher places. She pointed out that in villages Nihala Lavera, Dheera Ghara, and Talli Gram, NDRF teams have rescued several people trapped in floodwaters.
She said that medical facilities have been set up in several affected villages, including Habibke and Sultanwala, while the Animal Husbandry Department has organized veterinary camps in villages such as Bandala and Ruknewala to provide treatment, fodder, and medicines for livestock. At Gatti Rajo Ke, veterinary teams are attending to cattle and distributing feed. Essential supplies are also being extended to families, with sanitary pads distributed in Fatehwala and Fatehgarh Sabhra villages, and tarpaulins provided to residents of Ruknewala.
The DC said that Hazarewala bridge was inspected today and found to be safe. The concerned contractor has been instructed to keep constant watch and reinforce the bridge with soil and other materials if needed.
Highlighting relief arrangements, DC said that a relief camp at Bare Ke village is currently sheltering 260 people, where the district administration, along with social organizations, is ensuring langar, tea, water, and other necessities. The Khalsa Gurudwara Management Committee under Satinderjit Singh Khalsa has also extended langar services for the displaced families. She assured that people in relief camps will not face any hardships, with even school-going children being assisted by teachers to continue their studies.
Meanwhile Chief Secretary Anurag Verma also visited the flood affected villages including Hazara Singh Wala, Bareke, Gatti Rajo ke, Habib Ke, Gatta Badshah and other villages. The CS also visited the Joint Check Post at Hussainiwala which has also been inundated in flood water for the last two days.
