Around 1 Crore foreign tourists visited India in 2023, promotional activities going on worldwide: Minister of Tourism to MP Arora

The foreign tourist arrival (FTA) to India is on rise, according to the official data. As per this data, 1.52 million foreign tourists arrived in India in the year 2021, the arrival was around 45 percent less than the previous year. However, arrival of foreign tourists to India got increased to 6.44 million (around 322 percent more than the previous year) in the year 2022. In the year 2023, the foreign tourists’ arrival to India further shoots up to 9.24 million (around 44 per cent more than the previous year).

Ludhiana, July 30, 2024: The foreign tourist arrival (FTA) to India is on rise, according to the official data. As per this data, 1.52 million foreign tourists arrived in India in the year 2021, the arrival was around 45 percent less than the previous year. However, arrival of foreign tourists to India got increased to 6.44 million (around 322 percent more than the previous year) in the year 2022. In the year 2023, the foreign tourists’ arrival to India further shoots up to 9.24 million (around 44 per cent more than the previous year).

According to MP (Rajya Sabha) Sanjeev Arora, the official data has been given by the Minister of Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in reply to his questions on tourism asked in the budget session of Rajya Sabha.

The questions asked by Arora included whether government proposes to formulate any scheme for foreign tourists and development of   tourism in the country; whether government maintains records regarding the number of foreign tourists coming to the country on tourist visa; and whether government proposes to introduce any tour programme for foreign tourists on the lines of tour programmes for Indian citizens by some of the State Governments.

In reply, the Minister further mentioned that the Ministry of Tourism promotes India as a holistic destination in various   markets   to increase India’s share of the global tourism market. These objectives are met through an integrated marketing and promotional strategy, and a synergized campaign in association with the Travel Trade, State Governments, and Indian Missions overseas. The Government continuously engages with industry experts and other relevant stakeholders and take their suggestions and feedback for promotion of varied tourism products of India.

Arora said the Minister further mentioned that tour programmes such as package tours for foreign and domestic tourists are provided by the private stakeholders and the State Governments. The Ministry of Tourism under its Hospitality Scheme invites people from various fields to effectively project India as an attractive multi-dimensional tourist destination offering a vast range of attractions. The invited guests get first-hand information/knowledge of the Indian tourism product and facilities during their familiarization tours under the hospitality programme of the Ministry of   Tourism.
