Annual temperate fruit plants sale starts at Nauni and research stations

The annual sale of temperate fruit material began today at Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Krishi Vigyan Kendras and Regional Horticulture Research and Training Stations of the university located in different parts of the state. Various varieties of apple, pear, plum, apricot, peach, nectarine, cherry, kiwifruit, walnut, pecan-nut, persimmon, grapes, pomegranate and almond, were bought by the farmers during this sale.

Nauni, December 11, 2023: The annual sale of temperate fruit material began today at Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Krishi Vigyan Kendras and Regional Horticulture Research and Training Stations of the university located in different parts of the state. Various varieties of apple, pear, plum, apricot, peach, nectarine, cherry, kiwifruit, walnut, pecan-nut, persimmon, grapes, pomegranate and almond, were bought by the farmers during this sale.

Farmers from different parts of Himachal and nearby states travelled to the university and research stations to buy fruit plants of different varieties. On day 1 of the sale, 782  farmers bought over 22,324  plants of different fruit varieties from the three nurseries at University main campus at Nauni, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Solan at Kandaghat, Rohru and Regional Horticulture Research and Training Stations at Mashobra in Shimla, Bajaura in Kullu and Sharbo in Kinnaur. This year, farmers have shown interest towards diversification of fruit crops and this was visible during the sale also where the demand for persimmon, kiwi and other stone fruits was high along with different apple varieties.

This year, the total number of plants available for sale at the university and outstations is over 2.72 lakh. Various varieties of apple, kiwi, pomegranate, apricot, peach, nectarine, cherry, walnut, persimmon, pear, plum will be available to the farmers during this sale. Around 50000 clonal rootstock of apple will also be available.
