Chandigarh, April 9, 2023: An initiative, Ann Anand for Animals 2.0 of Centre for Social Work, Panjab University, Chandigarh has completed two months today and is gaining momentum as more and more hostels are joining-in. In this initiative the students of our Centre for Social Work collect the leftover raw green vegetable peels from the hostels and offer them to the cows and bulls in the Cow shelter home in sector 25, Chandigarh on every day basis informed Gaurav Gaur, Chairperson and Coordinator of this program.

He shared that this initiative was launched on 17th November 2018 and continued till Nation wide Covid-19 pandemic hit worldwide. On an average we use to collect 200kg to 350 kg leftover peels at that time and was managed by four students namely Shishpal, Ishita Choudhary, Hiteshi Arora and Nitika Saini.

Afterwards from COVID-19, we continued it by putting certain other food items like jaggery, bran and cow feed sponsored by various philanthropists till February 2023. Now it's been two months that almost on regular basis our group of four students Abhishek, Prabhjot , Ritika and Snow Saadgi are executing it.

The students are doing this act of voluntary community service. There are a lot of benefits of this initiative like it will help in feeding the animals which is considered as a wastage, secondly it will keep our campus clean and not only this but this will make our students inclined for community service shared Gaurav Gaur.

He also shared that this initiative was acknowledged by V P Singh Badnore the then Governor of Punjab and Administrator, Chandigarh.

Even Davesh Moudgil, Former Mayor, Chandigarh appreciated this effort and honoured these volunteers at that time.
