Amrita Warring Rips Into AAP: Punjab’s Pain, Hollow Promises and Neglected Schools

Ludhiana, July 14, 2026: Reacting to the on-going controversy over the Satluj issue, senior Congress leader Amrita Warring said that while she would prefer not to comment directly, “Yes, I will always stand by the people of Punjab and the pain and suffering they have endured.” She was accompanied by Pawan Dewan, former President of the District Congress Committee, Ludhiana (Urban) and former Chairman of the Punjab Large Industrial Development Board, while responding to media queries during her whirlwind tour of Ludhiana Urban constituencies, including Ludhiana West.
Interacting with the media outside the residence of Naresh Soni, head of Shri Ram Sharnam, Kitchlu Nagar, at Green Park Civil Lines—where she had gone to offer condolences to Soni’s family on the demise of his wife, Neena Soni—she spoke briefly with reporters.
As the media pressed further on the Satluj controversy, asking whether recent film disputes and actors’ statements could worsen the situation in Punjab, she replied, “Look, this kind of rhetoric is not right. The people of Punjab have seen a lot of pain and suffering and whatever happened in the past was not right. The kinds of statements leaders give not suit them and it is not expected that such remarks should be made about the people of Punjab. It's not good.”
Amrita Warring asserted, “Definitely, they are scratching the wounds of Punjabi people and you know, we don't expect such behavior from our leader, from any leaders, be it any party. But first of all, I would request everyone, stand by the people of Punjab and understand what they went through. I mean, they, they don't want to even look at what went through, what the people and the families of the state went through.”
Responding to another media query that what she has to say about the on-going internal rift and conflict within the Congress party in Punjab, Amrita Warring, said, “Look, there is no point in me commenting on this. This is for the high command to decide and whatever decision is made will come out in front of all of you. It will be right before you.”
Raking up the issue of the TA/DA, Amrita Warring lashed out at the Bhagwant Mann-;led AAP government stating that the government employees in Punjab have not received their TA/DA (Traveling Allowance/Dearness Allowance) for the last four and a half years. She further said, “This should not be forgotten. A promise was made four and a half years ago that one thousand rupees would be given every single month to our sisters who had attained the age of 18 years. Now, when the elections are very close—with only three to four months left for voting—they (AAP Government) has started depositing money into the accounts of our sisters. Was the government sleeping for the last four and a half years?”
Amrita Warring also said, “And let me tell you one more thing: people understand this now. Now that the elections are back, they have started distributing money so that they can mislead people again, manipulate our simple, innocent sisters, and secure their votes. This money will not translate into votes. I want to tell the entire leadership of the AAP that the money you are distributing will not convert into votes, no matter what you do. You have tormented the people of Punjab greatly and out of sheer frustration, the people will 100 per cent change your government in the coming days.”
Coming down heavily in the AAP’s miserable failure in ending the menace of the rampant drugs, Amrita Warring said that the ground-level problems that the people of Punjab are facing today, the reality is that drugs have reached every corner of Punjab. “The lights of countless homes have been extinguished because of drugs and numerous youths have lost their lives. The government pays no attention to any of these issues.
Meanwhile, reacting sharply to the issue of the nearly 200 children at Government Primary School, Sati Sudha, near Samrala Chowk, who were forced to sit in stifling classrooms without electricity on Monday because the power supply was cut over a pending ₹42,000 bill, Amrita Warring said, “This is a disgrace? The AAP government flaunts its so called ‘Sikhya Kranti’ campaign, boasting of revolutionizing schools, yet in reality, young students are left to swelter without fans. What kind of transformation is this—where children are punished for the government’s failure to pay its dues?” She said the incident lays bare the hollowness of the AAP government’s promises—clear proof that its slogans of change crumble when confronted with the stark reality of neglected schools.
During her visit, Amrita Warring visited the residence of Naresh Soni, head of Shri Ram Sharnam Temple, Kitchlu Nagar, at Green Park Civil Lines, to offer condolences to Soni’s family. Soni’s wife, Neena Soni, had recently passed away. Sharing the grief with the family, she expressed sympathy with the family members, praying that the departed soul may find eternal peace.
Amrita Warring also visited the Jawahar Nagar residence of Seema Ghai (sister in law of Lali Ghai and wife of Roop Lal Ghai), who had passed away recently, to share grief with the family members and offer condolences.
Prominent among others present along with her included Congress leaders Inderjit Kappor, Baljit Ahuja, Varun Sharma and Jagseer Sidhu.
