Amity Ayurveda Research Center launched in New York, USA to promote Indian System of Medicine

Amity University made another landmark achievement today as it launched Amity Ayurveda Research Center, Amity Campus, Long Island, New York, USA with a mission to promote Indian System of Medicine (ISM) which is being practiced in India since time immemorial. It is envisaged that the center will promote and undertake research and development in the field of Ayurveda, as a promotive, curative and preventive solution to a number of health related issues.
The center of excellence was inaugurated virtually by Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State (Independent Charge) & Minister of state of Defence, Ministry of AYUSH and Padma Shri Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH in the august presence of Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation (The Foundation of Amity Institutions and the Sponsoring Body of Amity Universities).
Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of AYUSH & Minister of State for Defence, Chief Guest on the occasion shared how the research centre will provide an opportunity for the graduates coming out of this institution to deliver optimum healthcare services through Ayurveda medicine system to the society. “COVID-19 has engulfed the entire world and a well-planned and coordinated emergency response has become inevitable for effectively addressing the various issues and constraints surrounding it. Our Prime Minister has also emphasized on following AYUSH measures to deal with COVID-19. There is a need to scientifically and systematically document these measures,” shared Shri Naik. 
The Minister also talked of the recently launched "Ayush Sanjivani" mobile application for understanding the measures adopted by public for enhancing immunity and keeping themselves healthy in the difficult COVID-19 situation using AYUSH advisories across the country. “The initiative taken by Amity University will go in a long way in propagating scientific knowledge of Ayruveda to a global population,” shared the minister who also added that the deliberations of the webinar can also be used to suggest recommendations to the ministry.
Padma Shri Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH averred how the launch of the Long Island Research Centre has created a world of potential and possibilities to be explored. He also stated how the country has established a benchmark for the world in dealing with the pandemic under the leadership of PM Modi. Talking about the Ayush Sanjivani application that has been created to assess impact of AYUSH advisories on a large number of population, Shri Kotecha sought the help of students and faculty of Amity University to get the people sensitized about the app to reach its target of 5 million people.
This research center has been established with an aim to undertake research in various aspects related to ISM as well as to promote and spread the knowledge associated with this system across the globe. The integration of traditional and modern knowledge will provide new dimension of research and development in healthcare sector.
Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Group of Institutions expressed his joy during the inauguration of the Amity Ayurveda Research Center in the Long Island campus of Amity University and shared how it is part of his life’s mission to reinstall the faith of people in Ayuerveda. “The Honorable Minister’s presence is very inspiring as he has been far sighted in bringing Ayurveda closer to the world. We will make a revolution under his guidance and take Ayurveda to the masses. The new Ayurveda Research Centre at Long Island will showcase how Ayurveda is a solution to every health issue,” shared Dr. Chauhan.
Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President of Amity Education Group is a strong proponent of Indian Systems of Medicine including Ayurveda. Under his initiative Amity has established Amity Institute of Indian System of Medicine at the Amity Noida Campus. Aligning its research endeavors with the Nation, Amity has been undertaking research initiatives to integrate traditional medicine into national health care system which would facilitate more efficient use of indigenous medical resources under the visionary guidance and leadership of Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan.
Calling the launch of the Ayurveda research centre extremely relevant to the present times, Dr. Aseem Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University Haryana and CEO, Amity Capital Ventures stated the need to have a positive outlook and convert the crisis into an opportunity. “The Indian systems of medicines provide solutions to the entire world at a low cost with minimum side effects. So we all should work with deep commitment to take this initiative forwards,” averred Dr. Aseem Chauhan.
Dr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh lauded the efforts of the AYUSH ministry on scientific analysis of data and its impact on Ayurveda on the human population using the Ayush Sanjivani App. He stressed on the positive effect Indian system of medicine has made on the health of humanity that made Amity take up a number of initiatives in the field of Ayurveda and promotion of yoga. “Indian system of medicine is important not only for us but for people across the globe and the centre at Long Island will help us collaborate with practitioners and researchers across the world to propagate the initiatives of the ministry of AYUSH,” shared Dr. Atul Chauhan.
Continuing the vision of Founder President and expanding his mission of developing Global Citizens, Amity University Long Island is advancing in innovative initiatives to enhance students’ experiences and maximize productivity for all. The inauguration ceremony was followed by a webinar discussion on “COVID-19 and Ayurveda: Principle, Practice and Policy,” which was addressed by eminent experts in the field of Ayurveda including, Padma Bhushan Vaidya Devendra Triguna, President, All India Ayurvedic Congress & Hony. Physician to the President of India; Dr. K.S. Dhiman, Director General, Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences; Dr. Manoj Nesari, Advisor (Ayurveda), Ministry of AYUSH; Prof. Tanuja Nesari, Director, All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi; Dr. Ishwar Basavaraddi, Director, Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga and Prof. Sanjeev Sharma, Director, National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur.
Dr. Manoj Nesari, Adviser (Ayurveda), Ministry of AYUSH stated how a number of things can be done through Ayurveda to mitigate and treat COVID. He shared how India and Ministry of AYUSH is the first in the world to give a lot of emphasis on boosting immunity and also share an advisory. He also invited the newly launched centre at Long Island campus to work in collaboration with the Ministry to initiate a research and find measures to fight the COVID-19 scare in USA that is reeling under the effect of the pandemic. 
Stressing on the fact that COVID-19 will be a part of human lives for some time, Padma Bhushan Vaidya Devendra Triguna, President, All India Ayurvedic Congress (AIAC) & Honorary Physician to the President of India suggested measures including boosting the immunity of the individual to fight this virus, maintain social distancing and also continue using masks. He also recommended everyone to go for a holistic approach focusing on the nutrition, sleep and boosting of immunity to combat this virus. “We don’t need to be scared of the virus but fight it,” stressed Vaidya Triguna.
