Nawanshahr, February 19, 2022: As many as 4.99 lakh voters would decide the fate of 26 candidates who are in fray for three of assembly segments including Banga, Nawanshahr and Balachaur on Sunday when voting would be held in 614 polling booths of the district from 8 am to 6 pm.

Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Vishesh Sarangal who oversaw the dispatch of polling parties from different centers on Saturday, said that there are 499025 electors in the district including 165407 in Banga, 177400 in Nawanshahr and 156218 in Balachaur who would exercise their right to franchise in the polls. He said that 258186 male voters, 240817 female voters and 22 third gender voters would cast their votes on Sunday.

The Deputy Commissioner said that elaborate arrangements have been made for 3228 employees drawn from centre and state governments, banks and public sector undertakings and a similar number of staff from police departments have been assigned various duties for conducting the poll in a free, fair and transparent manner.

He said that 614 polling parties have been deployed at all polling booths of the district.

 
He told the entire election staff to perform their duties diligently so that people are able to cast their vote independently.  

Sarangal said that an approximate of 41 Micro Observers and 44 sector magistrates have been deployed for the polling day across.

Similarly,  he said that special arrangements have been made to ensure that polling parties and voters are facilitated in the polling booths including tents, chairs, potable water, wheelchairs, ramps, social distancing marks, masks, gloves would be ensured at the polling booths.

The Deputy Commissioner said the administration has set up 45 model polling booths, seven pink polling booths and one polling booth especially for PWD voters.

Sarangal called upon the voters to set up a new record of the voting by coming out in massive numbers to cast the votes on Sunday.
 
He said that in 2017 assembly elections, the district had recorded 77.40 voting percentage and 66.72 voting percentage was registered in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
