Akali Leaders Shielding Liquor Mafia? AAP Exposes Alleged Links After Ethanol Seizure

Chandigarh, June 1, 2025: The Aam Aadmi Party strongly refuted the allegations made by an Akali leader regarding the Punjab Police's seizure of 80,000 liters of ethanol in Bathinda on Thursday night. AAP leader Baltej Pannu stated that it is well known that ethanol is mostly used for making spurious liquor in Punjab.
Raising questions, Baltej Pannu said, "I want to ask the Akali Dal (Badal) that during your government from 2007 to 2017, whenever a drug smuggler was caught, within 24 hours, a photo of them with some leader, MLA, or minister of yours would surface, showing their connection. Do you have some personal vested interest in this case too, that your leader is holding a press conference to defend the accused?"
Pannu pointed out that the Akali leader, during his press conference, was trying to suggest that the police had wrongly seized the ethanol. He claimed that the ethanol was not being transported for sale but was being taken to the nearest oil refinery.
However, the photos taken by the police at the time of the seizure clearly show how preparations had been made to transfer the ethanol into drums. They had every piece of equipment necessary to conveniently transfer it into drums. All of this was found on the spot, proving that the ethanol was intended for illegal use. The police acted vigilantly based on specific information and seized both trucks.
Pannu further stated that the Akali Dal’s true face regarding drugs has once again been exposed, showing how they shelter those involved in illegal drug trade. "Why are they in such a hurry to defend these individuals?" he asked.
He added that during Captain Amarinder Singh's government, there were rampant spurious liquor factories operating in Punjab, most of these factories were located in Patiala, and everyone knows whose names were associated with them.
