Jalandhar: Dr. Manoj Kumar, Principal DAVIET and Chairman Board of Studies (ECE) IKGPTU shared that now the students can choose Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science Engineering and Information Technology as Major during engineering studies and pursue their Honors’ degree in any of the thrust areas viz. Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Block Chain, Cyber Security, Data Science, and Internet of Things (IoT). The students from any branch of engineering other than these IT related disciplines can also study additional 06 courses with a weightage of extra 18-20 credits to earn an additional Minor degree.

Dr. Manoj Kumar shared that Major/Minor degree enables the students to specialize in an area that provides an extra edge in their job search. It will help them build an effective and efficient road map that uniquely prepares them for an empowering career.

He further elaborated that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning are fast-growing disciplines which are being implemented in a variety of businesses and industries. This makes them minors which are a good complement to many majors. He also shared that the students graduating with a degree in any discipline as major with a minor in Cybersecurity could expect careers in software engineering, embedded systems engineering, or information systems management, with an emphasis on designing, developing, operating, or analyzing security features or subsystems.

He shared that the students of Electronics & Communication engineering can also opt for Robotics as Honors program which will help them to understand a robotic integration process within a technical environment of interest and Communicate effectively about robotic problem solutions, technologies, and system designs. He shared that  presently Electronics & Communication Discipline is very important and have applications in almost all fields of engineering and the minor prepares students to understand the design tradeoffs present in aggregating and processing information generated by these networked devices either locally or in the cloud. Students completing this track will be ready to effectively compete in industries related to embedded and networked systems and IoT technologies.

He said if there is more than one field in which students are interested then getting a minor in one of them can show that s/he put in the extra effort required to not just complete a major field of study, but the necessary work to have a minor as well. This commitment to successfully complete a minor along with the major provides the necessary boost to students to outperform their competitors in the corporate world.
