Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta directed the officers of the Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries Departments to develop one village in the district as a Model Village. He instructed that the existing livelihood practices adopted by farmers in the selected village be studied in detail and a comprehensive action plan be prepared to promote allied activities, with the objective of doubling farmers’ income.

Rohtak, December 24, 2025: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta directed the officers of the Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries Departments to develop one village in the district as a Model Village. He instructed that the existing livelihood practices adopted by farmers in the selected village be studied in detail and a comprehensive action plan be prepared to promote allied activities, with the objective of doubling farmers’ income.

The Deputy Commissioner was chairing a review meeting with officers of the concerned departments at the auditorium of the Mini Secretariat. He directed that the district should achieve the fish production target of 9,000 metric tonnes in the current year and increase it to 15,000 metric tonnes in the coming year. He informed that 1.19 crore fish seed has already been stocked at the Sampla hatchery, and an additional 35 lakh seed will be stocked during February–March. Quality fish seed is produced at this hatchery.

In the meeting, it was decided that villages Madoudi Rangdan and Madoudi Jatan would be developed as Model Villages through the coordinated efforts of all four departments. The Deputy Commissioner said that data regarding the primary occupations adopted by farmers in these villages should be collected, and possibilities for adopting allied activities under agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, and fisheries should be explored. All concerned departments will jointly prepare a detailed Model Village action plan.

DC Sachin Gupta said that the district administration aims to double farmers’ income and encourage them towards crop diversification and adoption of allied activities. While reviewing the implementation of schemes of the Fisheries Department, he emphasized making concerted efforts to increase fish production in the district and motivating farmers to take up fisheries. Waterlogged and saline areas of the district will also be developed for fisheries. So far, 19 hectares of saline water area and 12 hectares of fresh water area have been developed for fish farming. He also directed that the targets of fish seed production at the Sampla hatchery be achieved.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that a special plan should be prepared for developing ponds to enhance fish production. Currently, proposals have been prepared to lease out 22 panchayat ponds for fisheries, while the process for another 22 ponds is underway. Proposals include three ponds in village Asan, five in Maina, five in Baland, two in Bahu Akbarpur, two in Kanhi Saadhe 12, two in Karor, and assessment has also been completed for two panchayat ponds in Kherdi. To promote fisheries in village Mokhra, water samples were collected today by the department.

The review meeting was attended by Deputy Director Animal Husbandry Dr. Surya Khatkar, Deputy Director Agriculture Dr. Surender Malik, District Fisheries Officer Asha Hooda, District Horticulture Officer Dr. Madan Lal, District Soil Conservation Officer Dr. Neena Sehrawat, SDO Dr. Narendra Dahiya, SDAO Sandeep Singh, APOs Meghna, Jwala Singh, Nitesh, Amit, Deepak Singh, Sombir, and other concerned officers.
