Ludhiana, May 22, 2024: As the temperatures soar with the onset of summer, DMC&H has issued an important advisory to the public regarding heat stroke prevention and its management.

Heat stroke is a serious and potentially fatal condition caused by the body overheating, typically due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures or strenuous physical activity in the heat.

In his message, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, Bipin Gupta said that DMC&H is always in the forefront to create awareness among the masses and we urge everyone to take necessary steps to protect themselves from heat related illness.

According to Dr Rajesh Mahajan, HOD & Professor of Medicine, “It is important to recognize the symptoms and take immediate action to prevent severe health consequences. Symptoms of heat stroke include a body temperature of 104°F or higher, altered mental state or behaviour such as confusion, agitation, and slurred speech, hot and dry skin or excessive sweating, nausea, vomiting, rapid pulse, headache, dizziness, and fainting. Recognizing these signs early and taking prompt action can save the life of a person highlighted.”

In her message, Dr Vandana Midha, Professor of Medicine said that there is an increase of cases of heat exhaustion. It is suggested to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water but avoiding caffeinated drinks as well as carbonated and highly sugary drinks. Further Dr Midha emphasized that, those on fluid restricted diet due to health condition should always consult a doctor. It is also recommended to wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing to help the body stay cool also limiting outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, between 10 AM and 4 PM, can significantly reduce the risk of heat stroke.

“Heat stroke is a life-threatening emergency. We urge everyone to take the necessary precautions during the hot months to stay safe and healthy.
