Chandigarh, March 17, 2023: Chandigarh based academician and author, Dr. Amneet Gill who teaches History in Panjab University, Chandigarh participated in Global Policy Dialogue organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs ( UNDESA )  on the topic “Youth and Indigenous Solutions for Water” through a Webinar. As part of the UN system’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 6 on clean water and sanitation, the dialogue highlighted several key messages including how water is a cross cutting issue supporting the entire 2030 UN agenda on sustainable development. By raising the voices of youth and indigenous people, the dialogue brought forth intersectionality of the issues these vulnerable groups face and their innovative solutions to the water crisis.

Dr. Amneet Gill believes that India is soon going to assume leadership in water management issues with the success of its Jal Jeevan Mission which is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goal criteria for safely managed water supply, with a commitment to providing piped water supply to every household.  The fast rate of ground water depletion, water quality monitoring and expansion of rain water harvesting are critical areas. She feels that youth can play a significant role through grass root mobilization and community driven initiates to tackle these water related issues.

An academic topper throughout (Double Gold Medalist), Dr. Gill has authored 5 books and several research papers. She participates regularly in the conferences organized by the United Nations addressing various developmental issues.
