7 days NSS Camp starts at PU

Students participate in 7 days NSS Camp starts at PU, Chandigarh.

Chandigarh, January 3, 2015: A seven days NSS camp started on Friday at Panjab University (PU) campus. The theme of the NSS camp is Clean and Green India. As many as 300 students have enrolled for the NSS camp. PU Dean Student Welfare Prof Navdeep Goyal inaugurated the camp. He motivated the volunteers for democratic living and empathy for fellow human beings.

Prof Goyal shared the history and the evolution of NSS in India since its inception on September 4, 1969 on the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi.  He also traced the history of NSS in PU campus. He further informed that 375 million NSS volunteers have been benefitted from the NSS activities nationwide since its inception. Prof. Goyal also informed NSS volunteers about the new gradation system adopted by the PU as per the guidelines of the Government of India.

NSS Campus Coordinator Dr. Jatinder Grover shared his views with the students about the role of NSS activities in developing overall personality. Dr. Grover told students to contribute their time towards social service. He congratulated the volunteers who have come forward for the camp in the winter vacations. He said that the camp give chance to interact with each other and to know the Panjab University campus and community. He also stressed that the corporate sector is look for employees with life skills. Dr Grover pointed that most of the modern families are nuclear families and the students growing up in these families usually lack the skills of sharing and caring as compared to kids brought up in joint families. The students from joint families learn to participate, interact and discuss new ideas. The NSS camps also provide the leadership qualities in the NSS volunteers and towards development of better nation by reaching out to the community at large.

The students participated enthusiastically in the cleanliness drive at Students Center in PU campus. The students also participated in the ice breaking session.
