₹641 Crore ‘Green Power Punch’. Mann Government’s Clean Energy Vision with Nabha Power, 24x7 Affordable Electricity and Thousands of Jobs.

Chandigarh, October 11, 2025: The Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s leadership is setting a new example in the field of clean energy. By making clean energy the main foundation of the state’s progress, the government is protecting the environment and creating job opportunities for millions of youth. In this direction, Nabha Power Limited’s (NPL) ₹641 crore electricity generation project is a shining star in Punjab’s green revolution. This project will bring affordable and clean electricity along with 500 jobs, making Punjab’s future clean and prosperous. With recently launched schemes, Punjab is rapidly moving towards achieving clean energy capacity, which will guarantee the state’s economic strength and continuous development.

Nabha Power Limited, which is a fully owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), has started an ambitious plan to convert its 1,400 MW thermal power plant in Rajpura, Patiala into a hybrid model mixed with solar energy. In this ₹641 crore project, solar energy will be combined with the thermal plant, which will reduce pollution by 15 percent and protect the environment. This project will create 500 new jobs, in which local youth will be given priority. This scheme will run under a 25-year power purchase agreement with Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), which will provide affordable and clean electricity to Punjab. This project will start by December 2025 and will be completed in phases by 2026, which will significantly increase Punjab’s renewable energy capacity.

This project by Nabha Power will give new strength to the state’s industrial system. Rajpura’s thermal plant already fulfills a large part of Punjab’s electricity needs, providing 40 percent electricity in non-peak season and 20 percent in peak season. With the integration of solar energy, this plant will become even better for the environment. In 2025, the central government’s Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) awarded NPL for environmental protection, which shows its green commitment. This project strengthens Punjab’s clean energy initiative while highlighting the strength of domestic investment and Indian multinational companies.

Punjab government’s other clean energy schemes are also progressing strongly in this direction. 66 new solar plants will provide 264 MW clean electricity by December 2025, which will generate 40 crore units of electricity every year and save ₹176 crore in agricultural subsidy. This scheme will bring an investment of ₹1,056 crore and create more than 500 jobs. Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has signed an agreement with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore to make clean hydrogen fuel from paddy straw, which is a revolutionary step in environmental protection. A 40 MW canal-top solar project will generate electricity while saving water. Solar farms are being built with Saferay Company in Fazilka and Ferozepur, which will bring more investment. Solar panels installed in 4,238 government schools are generating 2.89 crore units of electricity. 63.5 MW plants have been installed through rooftop solar, and 3,000 applications are pending. PEDA has installed 815.5 MW solar plants, which are reducing electricity losses. A ₹5,000 crore electricity infrastructure scheme will end power cuts next year. All these schemes have already created more than 2,000 jobs, and this number will double by the end of 2025.

Clean Energy Minister Aman Arora said, “This project by Nabha Power is a big step in Punjab’s green revolution. We are moving from thermal to solar energy, which will save the environment and provide green jobs to youth.” Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, “This project by Nabha Power is a symbol of prosperity for every Punjabi. Our government is taking Punjab to new heights through clean energy, employment, and investment. Your trust in the upcoming elections will be our strength. Our promise is that Punjab will become clean, prosperous, and self-reliant.” This project will prove to be a milestone in making Punjab India’s green engine.
