3-Day International Conference SWAAC ELSO begins at DMCH

Ludhiana, March 9, 2023: Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, Hero DMCH Heart Institute (HDHI) is organizing 9th Annual international conference SWAAC ELSO 2023 & 12th Annual conference of ECMO Society of India. 

This conference is on ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation), the procedure which gained awareness & attention among the common public during COVID -19 pandemic and which saved several critical COVID 19 patients with severe lung problems.

ECMO Experts from various countries including USA, UK, Australia, Singapore, South Africa, Middle East countries and experts from various parts of India will be speaking on subject and will be sharing their views.

This three-day event will be starting on 10th March as a pre- conference workshop where the participants will be trained by using advanced simulation to learn not only the ECMO but other extracorporeal therapies such as CRRT.

The unique part of this conference is that the delegates are joining from India and around the globe including Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and middle east countries to learn tips and tricks of ECMO. This training will help participants to use this novel technology in critically ill patients with various heart and lung problems. 

Prem Kumar Gupta, Secretary of DMCH Managing Society said that we always encourage academic activity at DMCH to exchange knowledge of health care professionals to improve the patient care.

Dr GS Wander, Vice Principal DMCH & organizing chairman said presently, ECMO treatment is available in only few medical institutions of the country and it is the need of the hour to sensitize present day physicians, ICU specialists, emergency physicians and cardiologists about usage of ECMO modality.

Organizing Chairman Dr Bishav Mohan, eminent cardiologist said that organizing such conferences help the budding physicians to know about the proper usage and functioning of ECMO machines to treat several acute ailments. He added that HDHI is the highest ECMO performing center in North India. It has been effectively used in the institute for treating victims of celphos poisoning, patients suffering from swine flu or COVID 19 and other lung diseases due to infection, Cardiogenic shock after a massive heart attack and even in cases of Cardiac arrest.

Organizing Secretary Dr Vivek Gupta, Consultant at Hero DMC Heart Institutes said that ECMO is a lifesaving modality which supports heart and lungs for those critically ill patients when other treatment modalities have failed in the ICU. He said that the scientific program not only includes the lectures but also includes panel discussion by experts and case-based discussion. He said a great attraction will be the International ECMO QUIZ competition and research paper presentation by various delegates.
