170 MDU students learn hands-on CPR skills; Registrar Prof Bansal stresses need for emergency preparedness

Rohtak, September 18, 2026: With the first few minutes critical during a cardiac arrest, around 170 students of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) received hands-on training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on Friday.

The CPR awareness and training programme was organised jointly by Holy Heart Hospital, the Office of Dean Students’ Welfare, Youth Red Cross, UIHMS, University Outreach and the Public Relations Office.

Inaugurating the programme, MDU Registrar Prof Sandeep Bansal said students should develop a spirit of service along with the ability to respond effectively during emergencies. He said basic first-aid skills such as CPR could prove life-saving when timely medical help is not immediately available.

Holy Heart Hospital Director Dr Mayanka Batra said rising lifestyle-related health risks had made awareness of cardiac emergencies increasingly important. CPR can be crucial in the interim between a sudden cardiac arrest and the arrival of an ambulance or medical team, she said.

Director, Public Relations, Sunit Mukherjee welcomed the participants and paid tribute to cardiologist Dr Aditya Batra. He urged students to undergo CPR training and contribute as health volunteers.

Holy Heart Hospital chief trainer Rajbir Singh demonstrated practical CPR techniques, assisted by Rahul and Arun Malik.

UIHMS Director Prof Munish Garg, Dean Students’ Welfare Prof Sapna Garg, Prof Madhu Anand, Prof Sarvdeep Kohli, Prof Raj Kumar, Prof Harish Kumar, Prof Surender Yadav and Prof Deepti Hooda were among those present.

Youth Red Cross volunteers and students from UIHMS, Psychology, Journalism and Mass Communication and UIET participated in the training.
