Short Movie `Lori’ and Book titled ‘Badalde Rishte’ released


Ludhiana, December 21, 2017: With an aim to motivate people against female foeticide, an event was organized by P.G Department of Punjabi, Ramgarhia Girls College,Miller Ganj, Ludhiana. On this occasion, a short movie “Lori” based on the poem by Prof.Gurbhajan Gill and a book “Badalde Rishtey” by Dr.Yadwinder Singh was released.S.Sardara Singh Johl, V.C., Central University, Bathinda was the chief guest. Principal Dr.Inderjit Kaur accompanied by the faculty of Punjabi department gave floral welcome to the chief guest. The event was marked by the presence of S.Gurpreet Singh Toor, IPS, S.Pritam Singh Bhrowal, S.Harminder Singh IAS and S.Tej Partap Singh Sandhu.
Addressing the audience, Dr. Nirmal Jaura, Director, Youth welfare Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh says that this movie Lori seeks to address gender imbalance and discrimination against the girl child prevailing in the country not only in the uneducated households but also in educated ones. Supporting the views of Dr. Nirmal, S.S. Johl added that every 12 seconds a girl foetus is aborted in India, which means around 700,000 girls are killed every year and indeed this is an alarming situation. “As discrimination against girls assumes great proportion in India, this movie “Lori”and the book “Badalde Rishte” are the need of the time,” says S.Ranjodh Singh, President, Ramgarhia Educational Council. He also appreciated the efforts of media-both print and electronic, as it plays significant role in removing gender discrimination and developing a healthy society. Principal Dr. Inderjit Kaur encouraged the students by saying that it is not easy to change overnight the attitude of people towards female child. Women should be prepared to raise their voice against female foeticide. S.Gurcharan Singh Lotey, General Secretary, Ramgarhia Educational Council appreciated the efforts of the team “Lori” and Dr. Yadwinder Singh and gave all a vote of thanks.
