Ludhiana, December 28, 2017: A Zonal Meet of NGOs was held on Thursday at Bachat Bhawan. The objectives of the meeting was to review performance of sanctioned projects of SHGs (Self Help Groups), JLGs (Joint Liability Groups) and MEDPs( Micro Enterprise Development Programme), to improve the credit linkage, discuss operational issues, finalization of action plan for implementation of sanctioned projects for the year 2016-17. The meet was chaired by Mr. J.P.S.Binda, GM, NABARD Punjab Regional Office.
Mr. J.P.S.Bindra in his opening remarks indicated that total Number of SHGs having Saving Bank account as on 31 March 2017 is 85.77 Lakh and total number of credit linked/loans outstanding against SHGs were 48.48 Lakh in all over India. In Punjab, so far 40203 SHGs had been formed in the State and 27705 groups credit linked leaving a gap of about 11831 groups.
He revealed that NABARD has also initiated the process of digitilisation of SHGs in 100 districts of the country. Further, he disclosed that Patiala district has been identified for the digitilisation of SHGs EShakti project and subsequently all the districts will be covered under EShakti project for digitilisation of SHGs.
He said that Punjab Regional Office of NABARD has been making efforts for intensification of SHG-bank linkage programme and JLG programme in Punjab with active involvement of NGOs and Bankers. He also stated that a large number of capacity building programmes have been conducted by NABARD for NGOs as well as for Bankers. He emphasized that all the efforts under SHG, JLG and MEDPs should result in the upliftment of rural poor. GM touched upon the issues related to gap between saving linked and credit linkage of SHGs, and highlighted availability of good potential in the state.
