Khanna (Ludhiana), June 1, 2026: In a major action under the ongoing Yudh Nasheyan Virudh campaign, the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA), along with a heavy police contingent, demolished an illegal luxury property belonging to former sarpanch and alleged drug kingpin Gurdeep Singh Rano on Monday.
According to Pradeep Kumar, District Town Planner (Regulatory), GLADA, the action was taken on the directives of Additional Chief Administrator (GLADA) Vikas Heera, in strict compliance with state government guidelines. The high-level enforcement team included Law Officer Digvijay Singh, Sub-Divisional Engineers (SDEs) Gurpreet Singh, Karan Aggarwal, Sumesh Kaushal, and Junior Engineers (JEs) Varinder Singh, Amandeep Singh, Rohit Goyal, Akshay Vishisht, Veerpal Singh, alongside JE (PH) Amandeep Singh.
The joint enforcement drive targeted unauthorized structures built by Rano in his native Rano village, falling under the Payal subdivision of district. The operation was closely coordinated between GLADA and the Khanna Police under the direct supervision of SSP Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia. A significant portion of the property spread across approximately 11 kanals and 11 marlas—had been officially flagged as unauthorized by GLADA, prompting the legal demolition proceedings.
DSP (Payal) Harmanpreet Singh Cheema disclosed that Gurdeep Singh Rano is facing 10 criminal cases involving drug trafficking and other heinous offenses. Reaffirming the administration's zero-tolerance policy, DSP Cheema emphasized that drug peddlers would face uncompromising action. He highlighted that law enforcement is aggressively targeting properties suspected to have been funded through narco-profits, shifting the strategy toward completely dismantling the financial networks of drug cartels alongside making arrests. Rano was arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) in 2020 following the seizure of approximately 5 kilograms of heroin.
SSP Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia reiterated that on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and DGP Gaurav Yadav, the Khanna Police is committed to making the state drug-free. She warned that the drive against illegally acquired properties of drug smugglers will be intensified.
