Kapurthala, December 27, 2017: Year 2017 has been full of achievements for Science City. Vigyan Yatara is a big accomplishment since 1.25 lacs students of government schools have visited Science City from all over Punjab till December 31,2017 under this scheme. . The information was given by Sh.Mohammad Tayyab, Director General, Science City Kapurthala in a press release.

He said that Science City is hub of scientific activities, number of functions related to various fields of science were organized through out the year. Science City as usual always entertained its visitors and educated all ages of masses with edutainment and thus provided the eye opening experience for visitors. Talking about Dome theatre film, he said that space theater film” National American Park Adventure “ had been a star attraction for the visitors. The film explores America’s most legendary outdoor places and gave message to conserve national park as well as biodiversity, watching the film in large format provided an immersive experience.

He said that PGSC has setup an innovation Hub in collaboration with National Council of Science Museums- an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. The objective of Innovation Hub is to promote innovativeness and engage youth towards creativity in the region especially those having potential ideas. This hub provides facilities to nurture new ideas and help to develop inquisitiveness amongst the younger generation. Besides this, programme on Mobile Science exhibition extended out reach of science to the unreached i.e. rural mass especially students. Besides, Night Sky Watching a door step facility of Science City provided an opportunity to the students for seeing wonders of space science at their own premises.

To enhance public awareness, NPCIL has set up a semi - dynamic model of 220 MW nuclear power plant at Science City.The semi-dynamic NPP models are one of the best tools to educate / inform general public about the nuclear power plants, he added.

DG, Science City informed that in order to generate interest and curiosity, new features like upgradation of 3-D theater to 5-D theater is being taken up in the next calendar year. A gallery on Robotic Dinosaur is also under consideration and likely to be set up in the next year. IMAX FILM “Everest” is being once again planned to be screened in the Space Theater of Science City on persistent demand of the public.

Further, he said that a project titled “Women Empowerment through Genetic Literacy: An innovative intervention” has been sanctioned to Science City by SEED, division of DST (GoI). The project will sensitize people especially in rural areas on genetic basis of sex determination in a child and also create awareness about Genetic Disorders and importance of prenatal screening.
