World Mental Health Week observed at DMC&H
The Department of Psychiatry, DMC&H observed World Mental Health Week from October 3 to 10, aligning with the global theme for World Mental Health Day “Mental Health in Humanitarian Emergencies”
Ludhiana, October 09, 2025: The Department of Psychiatry, DMC&H observed World Mental Health Week from October 3 to 10, aligning with the global theme for World Mental Health Day “Mental Health in Humanitarian Emergencies”
Throughout the week, the department under the leadership of Dr. Navkiran S. Mahajan, organized a series of activities aimed at promoting mental well-being in educational settings. These included essay writing, reel-making, and byte-making competitions for school students across Ludhiana district, encouraging creative expression on mental health topics. A poster-making competition was also held for nursing students, focusing on mental health awareness. Additionally, a workshop for school teachers and counsellors was conducted for psychological concerns among students and strategies to foster positive mental health in schools.
The events were attended by distinguished guests, including Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, Mukesh Verma, Treasurer, DMC&H Managing Society, Dr. G. S. Wander, Principal, DMC&H, Dr. Sandeep Kaushal, Dean Academics, Dr. Sandeep Sharma, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Navkiran S Mahajan, Professor & Head, Department of Psychiatry and other faculty members from department of psychiatry.
Bipin Gupta said that “Promoting mental health awareness among students and educators is essential for building a resilient and healthy society. Initiatives like these help in nurturing emotional well-being from a young age.”
Speaking in the occasion, Dr. G. S. Wander, said that “Mental health is as important as physical health. I am glad to see that students and teachers actively participating in activities that encourage discussion, creativity, and understanding of mental wellness.”
Dr. Navkiran S. Mahajan stated that “Mental Health Week helps educate and empower students and educators, fostering supportive learning environments and enabling early recognition of distress that may need professional care.”
Over 100 participants enthusiastically participated in the event and all winners were felicitated with prizes for their commendable performance.
