World Mental Health Day observed in Civil Hospital Ludhiana

World Mental Health Day being observed in Civil Hospital at Ludhiana on Thursday.

Ludhiana, October 10, 2013: World Mental Health Day was observed in Civil Hospital here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, K. K. Singla, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Ludhiana, has said mental sickness was curable and mentally ill persons were entitled to all human rights and fundamental freedom.

He added these were entitled to live with respect and dignity and could not be discriminated in any manner. Speaking about on the importance of the day, he added this was the day when reasons for the disease and methods of its prevention and cure could be discussed.

He said depression was catching the young generation and becoming an obstacle in the development of the country. Though a large number of people were suffering from this disease, still very few go for treatment, because of misconception and lack of awareness, he added.

He also spoke about the Provision of Metal Health Act and Scheme of National Legal Services Authority.

About the scheme of Legal Services Authority, he said the Authority would provide Legal Services to mentally sickness and retarded person for ensuring that fundamental rights and dignity of such people was in no manner affected and they were not discriminated in any field of life. www.cityairnews.com
