Ludhiana, October 10, 2017: Department of Psychiatry observed ‘World Mental Health Day’ in Psychiatry OPD of the hospital, by organizing a lecture to a wide gathering of patients and their attendants . World Mental Health Day is observed every year on 10 October to raise awareness about issues pertaining to mental illness. The theme for World Mental Health Day this year is “Mental Health in the workplace” with main purpose to raise awareness about mental health and providing support for better mental wellbeing.
Also present on the occasion were Principal Dr Sandeep Puri, Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh Chinna Medical Supdt. Dr Ashwani Chaudhary.
According to Dr Ranjive Mahajan (Professor & Head of Psychiatry), workplace plays an important role in our mental health , if the working environment is negative then it can lead to mental and physical problems. These health consequences can result into depression as well as anxiety disorders People with mental illness need not to live with social stigma and should express themselves and take treatment for their diseases from the qualified psychiatrist.
Dr Navkiran Mahajan (Professor of Psychiatry) emphasized depression and anxiety disorders are common mental disorders that have an impact on person’s ability to work. One in the four people in the world is affected by mental disorders globally. These problems can be treated. Early treatment of mental disorders leads to a healthier workforce.
Dr Rupesh Chaudhary (Associate Professor) & Dr Pankaj Kumar (Assistant Professor ) explained about the what are the common problem people faced at their workplace harassment and bullying can have adverse impact on mental health.
It was mentioned that there are many people all over the world, who suffer from some or other form of mental illness and are deprived of dignity and basic human rights, including exclusion from the normal social activities. A healthy work environment leads to increased productivity and benefits to the economy
On this Occasion poster making competition was held in which students from College of Nursing DMCH participated and Winners was Ms Prabhjeet , Ms Pritpal , Ms Prabhjot Kaur 1st ,2nd and 3rd respectively.
Clinical Psychologist-Dr BP Mishra, Nursing Supdt Ms Minakshi Periera, Ms Shweta Batta from Dietary Department also expressed their views on the occasion.
