The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 200 students and teachers representing various educational institutions.

Kapurthala: Pushpa Gujral Science City celebrated World Intellectual Property Day by organizing a seminar on the theme “IP and Music: Feel the Beat of IP”, highlighting the crucial role intellectual property (IP) plays in nurturing creativity and innovation in the music industry. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 200 students and teachers representing various educational institutions.

Dr. Rajesh Grover, Director, PGSC in his address to the participants, emphasized the importance of inventions and creativity in today’s fast-changing global economy. He explained that Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) act like a protective shield, helping to safeguard people’s ideas from being copied or misused. He pointed out that protecting intellectual property is key to driving innovation, boosting economic growth and maintaining global competitiveness. Furthermore, tools like patents, copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets play a vital role in encouraging creativity, attracting investments and advancing progress across industries, he added.

Dr. Balwinder Singh Sooch, Director, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Career Hub, Punjabi University, Patiala introduced this year’s World IP Day theme, highlighting how the music industry is evolving in the digital age. He explained that the theme focuses on the crucial role of Intellectual Property (IP) in supporting musicians and content creators in the era of the internet and social media. Using real-life examples, he helped the audience understand different types of IP and their importance in everyday life. The session also offered a clear overview of how to register copyrights, patents, industrial designs, trademarks and geographical indications, helping students and educators better understand the practical side of IP protection.
