World heart day: 250 screened in heart checkup camp at Rajiv Gandhi Govt Degree College

 

Shimla, September 29, 2022: As many as 250 students and faculty members were screened during a heart and lifestyle diseases risk evaluation camp at Rajiv Gandhi Govt Degree College Kotshera, Shimla on Thursday. The camp was organized by Dr. Deepak Puri a senior cardiac surgeon at Max Hospital, Mohali in collaboration with Inner Wheel Club Shimla Midtown, Shimla Development Authority & Age Care Society.

 

During the occasion around 1000 students and faculty staff also attended an interactive workshop on prevention & management of heart & lifestyle disease.

 

Speaking during the workshop, Dr. Puri highlighted the objective of organizing world heart day events to spread awareness that 17.9 million people die of heart diseases every year across the world every year which account for one third of total deaths. Fortunately 80% of Heart diseases complications are preventable

 

He also highlighted issues commonly affecting youngsters like addictions, stress and faulty lifestyle.

 

He also laid stress on rational use of unconventional and advances in technology with the advent of techniques like Robotic and Minimally invasive techniques. However he stressed the need for initiating primordial prevention from teenage and continues primary prevention as we progress forward in life and not wait till we are already affected by lifestyle diseases and till we develop complications.

 

A yoga session, music sessions and Aerobics was also organized with participants of students’ teachers and team of Dr Puri to highlight the benefits of each activity for maintaining Health and fitness.

 

Among others, Anupama Garg college principal, Mala Singh president Inner Wheel Club, Dr. Amarpal Singh Kochhar, co-coordinator,  Apeksha Garg , distt chairman, Seema Kapoor distt vice chairman, Namita Aggarwal club president and Dr Dhawal Deep Kaur club secretary was also present.
