World Environment Day Celebrated with Enthusiasm by NCC Unit of PCM S.D. College for Women
PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, continues to play a significant role in nurturing socially responsible citizens by promoting environmental consciousness among the youth. In keeping with this commitment, the NCC Unit of the college, in collaboration with Alfa Mahendru Foundation and Northern Railway, Firozpur Division, celebrated World Environment Day with great zeal and enthusiasm.
Jalandhar, June 5, 2026: PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, continues to play a significant role in nurturing socially responsible citizens by promoting environmental consciousness among the youth. In keeping with this commitment, the NCC Unit of the college, in collaboration with Alfa Mahendru Foundation and Northern Railway, Firozpur Division, celebrated World Environment Day with great zeal and enthusiasm.
The programme was organized under the guidance of Colonel R.S. Lehel, Commanding Officer, 2 Punjab Girls Battalion. The celebration commenced with an Environmental Awareness Rally led by Major Priya Mahajan, Associate NCC Officer, and Ramesh Mahendru, President of Alfa Mahendru Foundation. The rally began from the college campus and passed through Old Jawahar Nagar, Arjun Nagar, and Railway 40 Quarters before culminating at the Administration Complex of the D.E.M.U. Shed, Northern Railway, Jalandhar. Carrying placards and raising slogans promoting environmental conservation, cleanliness, and sustainable living, the NCC cadets and students effectively spread awareness among the public regarding the urgent need to protect the environment.
Following the rally, a plantation drive was organized in the park and premises of the D.E.M.U. Shed. NCC cadets planted a variety of saplings and encouraged citizens to adopt green practices and contribute towards environmental sustainability.
The initiative conveyed a strong message that protecting natural resources and preserving ecological balance is a shared responsibility of all.
The programme was graced by Prashant Sharma, Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer, Northern Railway, as the Chief Guest. Senior officials of Northern Railway, S.S. Multani (Senior Section Engineer, Accounts) and Ashok Saini (Senior Section Engineer, General), also participated in the event. Representatives of Alfa Mahendru Foundation including Jaswinder Singh Dhiraj (General Secretary), Lalit Mehta (Chief Advisor, Environmental Conservation), Adv. Jaipal Sharma, Rajinder Singh Bath, Janak Raj, Nupur Mahendru, Ramesh Bhalla, and Rajeev Sharma were present on the occasion along with other distinguished guests.
Principal Dr. Pooja Prasher highlighted that educational institutions have a vital responsibility in sensitizing students towards environmental issues. She remarked that today’s youth must take the lead in addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development. She highly appreciated the efforts of the NCC Unit under the leadership of Major Priya Mahajan for instilling values of social responsibility, environmental awareness, and civic consciousness among young cadets.
President Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Vinod Dada, other members of the managing committee and Principal Dr Pooja Prashar appreciated the dedicated efforts of the NCC Unit, Alfa Mahendru Foundation, and Northern Railway authorities in organizing the programme. They reiterated the institution’s commitment to promoting environmental awareness, sustainable practices, and community engagement among students, thereby contributing meaningfully to the welfare of society and the preservation of the environment.
