World Environment Day: A call to unite for plastic free future

Kapurthala, June 7, 2025: Pushpa Gujral Science City celebrated World Environment Day by organizing a State-Level Quiz Competition focusing with this year’s global theme “Ending Global Plastic Pollution” on June 5.
The event emphasized the urgent need to reduce and eliminate plastic waste which poses a major threat to human health. A State level  quiz competition was conducted with an objective to raise awareness among the youth and inspire actions against the burning environmental issues. The quiz covered key topics such as plastic pollution, climate change, biodiversity and  sustainable development. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation with around 400 students registering for the competition across the Punjab. The preliminary round was conducted in an online mode. Top 15 students based on their performance were shortlisted and invited to compete in the final round at Science City. The event served as a platform to educate, engage and empower the younger generation in taking actions for a sustainable future. The day  served as a call for collective action to address plastic pollution, which has become a major environmental threat. The first prize (Rs 5,000) was bagged by Krisha  from DAV Public School Ludhiana ,second prize (Rs 3,000)  went to Laxmi  from Centenary  Public School Phillaur  while the third prize (Rs 2,000) was awarded to Anshmeet Singh of Government Senior Secondary School Patiala.
