“World Environment Day 2025” with central theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”
Centre for Public Health, Panjab University today organised “World Environment Day 2025” with the central theme “Beat Plastic Pollution” in collaboration with Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee, and the Department of Forest & Wildlife, Chandigarh.

Chandigarh, June 5, 2025: Centre for Public Health, Panjab University today organised “World Environment Day 2025” with the central theme “Beat Plastic Pollution” in collaboration with Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee, and the Department of Forest & Wildlife, Chandigarh.
The drive was conducted across key locations—Sukhna Choe, Bapudham, and Kishangarh—between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM, with the objective of mobilising community action towards reducing plastic pollution and promoting environmentally responsible behavior under the national initiative Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE).
The event witnessed active participation from volunteers, environmental advocates, and students, collectively reinforcing the importance of sustainable living and ecological stewardship.
Further, Anup Kumar Soni, IFS, Conservator of Forest, Department of Forests & Wildlife, U.T. Chandigarh, graced the event, along with Dr. Vivek Pandey, Scientist E, CPCC; Bhupinder Singh, Range Forest Officer; Jatinder Singh, Range Forest Officer; and Dr. Rhythm Aggarwal, Assistant Environmental Engineer, CPCC and Dr. Meenakshi Jatayan, Assistant Environmental Engineer.
In his address, Anup Kumar Soni emphasised the silent infiltration of plastic into
the human body. He explained how plastic finds its way into our bodies through indirect means—primarily via food, packaging, and plastic-laden utensils.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Manoj Kumar highlighted the critical impact of plastic pollution on health, noting its link to serious conditions such as cardiovascular diseases. He stressed the urgent need for integrated efforts in public health and environmental management.
