World Environment Day 2025 celebrated at Lyallpur Khalsa College
Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, celebrated World Environment Day 2025 to promote environmental awareness. In observance of WED 2025, a plantation drive in the campus was organized to launch the Plant for Mother Campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0”.

Jalandhar,June 5, 2025: Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, celebrated World Environment Day 2025 to promote environmental awareness. In observance of WED 2025, a plantation drive in the campus was organized to launch the Plant for Mother Campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0”.
District Forest Officer, Jarnail Singh Bath was the chief guest on the occasion and Range Forest Officer, Hargurnek Singh Randhawa from Department of Forests and Wildlife, Jalandhar was present as special guest for the day.
Principal, Dr. Suman Chopra conveyed her best wishes and appreciated the efforts of the organizing team for taking such initiatives that align the academic institutions with global sustainability goals.
Vice Principal, Prof. Navdeep Kaur said that World Environment day has gained momentum over the years and has become a global movement that plays an important role in environmental conservation.
Dr. Gagandeep Kaur, Head, Department of Zoology & Botany informed that the department organized various activities from 22nd May to 5th June as a part of the Punjab Pollution control Board’s pre-campaign for WED 2025. Following the theme, “Beat Plastic Pollution”, the pre- campaign activities started with taking a pledge by the students and staff to ensure their commitment to end plastic pollution and work towards creating a cleaner and greener environment. Other activities like poster making competition, cleanliness drives, and workshop for sweepers and peons on waste segregation and safe disposal etc. were conducted.
An exhibition was organized in collaboration with Ajit Singh Foundation (Regd.) in which Ramanpreet Kaur and Rekha Kashyap showcased various articles made by students from plastic waste.
On 4th of June, a webinar on Solid Waste Management was organized.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Jatinder Kaur, Professor, department of Botanical & Environmental Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, delivered an insightful talk highlighting key issues related to solid and plastic waste management, their environmental impact, and practical strategies for sustainable waste disposal and recycling.
Dr. Surbjit Singh was appointed as the nodal officer for organizing these activities and updating them on ‘Meri LiFE’ Portal. All the activities witnessed active participation from Dr. Rashpal Singh Sandhu HOD Commerce, Dr. Balraj Kaur HOD English, Dr. Harjit Singh HOD Maths, Dr. Upma Arora, Dr. Heminder Singh, Surinder Kumar Chalotra (P.A. to Principal), Jagdish Singh and other faculty members, students and environmental enthusiasts.
