World Breast Feeding Week observed at DMCH

Ludhiana: “World Breast Feeding Week” was observed today in Gynae Seminar Room of DMCH. This year, 1st July to 7th July is observed as ‘World Breast Feeding Week’  

During the function, Post Graduate students from Departments of Pediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynae participated in extempore declamation contest, highlighting importance of breast feeding to child atleast for first two years since his birth. 

The function was organized by Punjab National Neonatology Forum on the theme ‘Protect Breast Feeding-A shared responsibility’

Faculty members from both the departments of Obstetrics & Gyanecology and Pediatrics were present on to listen to interested debate topics of their students on the theme of ‘Breast feeding’

Department of Dietetics, DMCH (under Dietitian Shaveta Batta) also played a major role in organizing the event. Team members from the Department of Dietetics also presented a very interesting skit item highlighting the importance of breast feeding by mother to her infant.

During the programme, health benefits of breastfeeding for mothers were also discussed which may result in lowering risk of various ailments including breast cancer, ovarian cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
