World Blood Donor Day 2025 Celebrated at DMC&H

Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion (IHBT), DMC&H, celebrated World Blood Donor Day 2025 with great enthusiasm and participation from faculty, students, and paramedical staff. The theme for this year’s celebration is "Give blood, give hope: together we save lives". Over 275 units of blood were generously donated during the event.

Ludhiana, June 14, 2025: Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion (IHBT), DMC&H, celebrated World Blood Donor Day 2025 with great enthusiasm and participation from faculty, students, and paramedical staff. The theme for this year’s celebration is "Give blood, give hope: together we save lives". Over 275 units of blood were generously donated during the event.

The event was graced by Sh Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society; Sh Mukesh Verma, Treasurer, DMC&H Managing Society, Dr. G.S. Wander, Principal, DMC&H, Dr Sandeep Kaushal, Dean Academics, Dr Bishav Mohan, Chief Cardiologist-cum-coordinator, Dr Ashima Taneja, Addl. Medical Supdt, DMC&H

In his message address, Shri Bipin Gupta lauded the commitment of the youth and students for coming forward to donate blood, emphasizing that this noble act has the power to save countless lives. He further urged the young generation to remain equally conscious about environmental sustainability, encouraging them to plant more trees and contribute positively to society.

Dr. G.S. Wander, in his message, emphasized the critical role voluntary blood donation plays in sustaining healthcare services. “Blood cannot be manufactured in factories; it can only come from generous donors. Each unit donated can make the difference between life and death for a patient in need. Regular donations are essential to maintaining an adequate and safe blood supply,” he said. He also acknowledged the tireless efforts of the blood bank team and thanked the volunteers for their invaluable contributions.

The celebration was meticulously organized under the leadership of Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Professor & Head, Department of IHBT, DMC&H. Dr. Rajesh described blood donors as “heroes,” stating, “Each donor brings hope to someone fighting for their life. Their selfless act is a true example of humanity in action. Blood donation is not just a medical necessity—it is a social responsibility.” He also expressed gratitude to all participants and the organizing team for making the event a resounding success.

MBBS batch students also participated in an E-Poster competition on the theme of World Blood Donor Day. The competition showcased creative and informative digital posters highlighting the importance of blood donation. The top five students were recognized for their outstanding contributions, and prizes were distributed to them by the hospital management, adding a motivational touch to the event and encouraging further student engagement.

To acknowledge the spirit of giving, donors were offered refreshments and commemorative gifts. The vibrant turnout and enthusiastic participation from various departments and community members highlighted the collective spirit of DMC&H in promoting health and humanitarian values.
