Dharamshala, October 19, 2019: World Anaesthesia Day was celebrated by the Department of Anaesthesia, Dr.Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Kangra at Tanda (Himachal Pradesh) on October 16.
This was stated by Dr.Bhanu Awasthi, Principal of the institute. The theme of the event was “World Restart a Heart Day” under the aegis of Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA).
While inaugurating the event, Dr.Bhanu Awasthi, Principal spoke on importance of this day. He said that “World Anaesthesia Day commemorates the first successful demonstration of ether Anaesthesia on October 16, 1846. This ranks as one of the most significant events in the history of medicine and took place at the Massachusetts General Hospital, home of the Harvard School of Medicine”. Dr. Awasthi was joined by Dr. Balbir Chabbra, former Prof & Head, Department of Anaesthesia, Tanda and a well-known luminary in this field. Dr.Deepali Sharma, Medical Superintendent also graced the occasion.
During the celebrations a hands on training of Compression Only Life Support (COLS) was imparted to 50 Hospital Non-medical staff members under the guidance of Dr. Sudarshan Kumar, Prof & Head, and Dr.Dheeraj Singha, Associate Professor, Department of Anaesthesia, Tanda. The training included both visual aids and Hands-on Training on CPR dummies. After the training, everyone shared their experience and pledge to spread the awareness about COLS and the celebration ended with the message that “Every Citizen can be a Life Saver”.
