Workshop on advancing clinical expertise in Peritoneal Dialysis held

Ambala, July 21: Park Healing Touch Hospital, Ambala, in association with the Peritoneal Dialysis Society of India (PDSI), successfully organized the PD Access Masterclass 2026, a hands-on workshop focused on advancing clinical expertise and patient-friendly innovations in Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) access.
In this workshop, Dr. Jyoti Aggarwal, Consultant Nephrologist and Kidney Transplant Physician highlighted the growing importance of percutaneous PD catheter insertion under local anesthesia, a minimally invasive approach that can be performed by trained Nephrologists themselves.
He said, “Dialysis patients often present with multiple comorbidities and may be at increased risk during procedures requiring general anesthesia. In the majority of these patients, the percutaneous approach may offer a less invasive alternative, potentially improving patient comfort and facilitating timely initiation of Peritoneal Dialysis.”
As part of the hands-on workshop, two patients successfully underwent PD catheter insertion using the percutaneous method, marking an important milestone in advancing procedural training and clinical practice in Peritoneal Dialysis access.
The workshop brought together medical professionals and experts with a shared objective of strengthening skills and promoting advanced techniques in PD catheter placement. The program provided participants with valuable practical exposure and insights into the clinical application of percutaneous PD access techniques.
Dr. Saurabh Nayak, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Nephrology, AIIMS Bathinda also participated in the workshop.
