Chandigarh, October 18, 2023: Department of Biophysics, Panjab University organized a workshop “Karyashala”. The theme of the workshop was“Biology meets nanotechnology: A fruitful amalgamation for research advancement”. 

Prof. Harsh Nayyar, Director Research and Development Cell, Panjab University was the Guest of Honor for the inauguration function. Prof. Anil Kumar, Chairperson, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Dr. Avneet Saini, Chairperson, Department of Biophysics welcomed the Guest of Honor. Chairpersons of Department of Biochemistry, Biotechnology and other faculties were present at the occasion. 

The workshop sponsored by SERB, Government of India was jointly organized by the Dr. Ravi Pratap Barnwal from Department of Biophysics and Dr. Gurpal Singh from University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh. 25 students including postgraduate and PhD students from all across the country participated in this workshop held from Oct.9-15, 2023. 

The scientific program of the workshop included invited and technical lectures on different aspects related to the theme. In addition, hands-on training was also provided on nanotechnology, molecular biology tools and various other techniques. Besides, visits to institutions of excellence such as NABI, IMTech and Panjab University’s SAIF-CIL were scheduled to provide research exposure to participants. 

Scientists from prestigious institutionslike IIT Delhi, NABI Mohali, INST Mohali, CSIO Chandigarh, IMTech Chandigarh, PGIMER Chandigarh, NCCS Pune and NII New Delhi were the speakers for the event and interacted with the participants. 

The valedictory function was presided over by Prof Yajvendra Pal Verma, Registrar, Panjab University. He awarded certificate of participation to the students and motivated the students for research excellence.
