Chandigarh, October 11, 2019: The Criminal Justice Practicum Cell of University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University, Chandigarh, successfully organized a workshop on "Psychological theory of Crime and Body Language of Criminals" dated 10th October, 2019. This workshop was organized under the mentorship of Prof. (Dr.) Rattan Singh, Director, UILS and Dr Anju Choudary , Assistant Professor (Law) – Teacher Co-ordinator Criminal Justice Practicum Cell who have worked tirelessly for the success of this event. The workshop’s main focus was on the question ‘why people commit crimes?’ and criminology- study of crimes and criminals. Students were made aware about the individual factors that can result into criminal thinking patterns by Dr Vidushi, faculty member, MCM DAV College for Women Sec-36 Chandigarh. They were apprised with the various theories accepted in psychology regarding the crime and were also educated on the mental toll of committing a crime on an individual .the role of id, super ego and ego were also discussed at length as were the roles of upbringing and the psychological state of the individual. Rehabilitative psychology was also brought up especially in the case of juvenile offenders. The workshop was received among the students with great enthusiasm and sparked a curiosity towards psychological aspects of crime and offence.
