Thiruvananthapuram, June 25 (IANS) Congress' Kerala unit President, K. Sudhakaran, who was arrested in connection with a cheating case involving fake antique dealer Monson Mavunkal, on Sunday asserted that he will not step down from his post.

Talking to media persons in Kannur, he also said that he would file a defamation suit against the CPI-M's state Secretary, M.V. Govindan and the CPI-M mouthpiece 'Deshabhimani' on their allegations against his involvement in a POCSO case. 

Sudhakaran had offered to quit as state Congress chief after he was arrested in a cheating case against Mavunkal but now said that he will continue as per the wish of the Congress's high command. 

He also said that he would fight the case against the Crime Branch arrest in the case related to cheating involving the controversial antique dealer. A few complainants had stated that when they had handed over money to Mavunkal, Sudhakaran was present too. 

Mavunkal had claimed that he had several antique items in his possession and cheated many people. He had also claimed that he was a trained physician and had medical solutions for skin ailments. He had a huge network of friends that included the then state Director General of Police, Loknath Behra and several other top-ranking bureaucrats, police officers and politicians. 

Inspector General of Police, G. Lakshman and retired DIG K. Surendran are also accused along with Sudhakaran in the cheating case involving Mavunkal.
