Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma & Commissioner of Police Rakesh Agrawal today visit the premises of Vardhman Special Steels Ludhiana to honour and appreciate the efforts of the workers, Oxygen Yodhas, for working 24x7 for saving several lives by providing oxygen.

Ludhiana: Patting the workers of Vardhman Special Steels Limited (VSSL) and Weltech Equipment and Infrastructure (WEI) for exhibiting exemplary courage and determination while generating oxygen round the clock to save precious lives from Covid-19, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Rakesh Agrawal on Wednesday saluted their indomitable spirit and described them ‘Oxygen Yodha’ in the ongoing war against an invisible enemy.

Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police especially reached in the premises of both industries and thanked the workers and their management and said Punjab government and the district administration acknowledges their endeavour against infectious disease due to which several precious lives are being or would be saved.

Quoting "Never was so much owed by so many to so few" was a wartime speech made by the British Prime Minister Winston Churchill on August 20, 1940, Deputy Commissioner said that the people of Ludhiana would ever remain indebted to the selfless services rendered by the workers and their contribution would save precious lives from the pandemic.

They told that some parts of the country are struggling to get oxygen and even several lost their lives but in Ludhiana, you all (workers) are working round the clock and even doing overtime for producing life-saving gas for the Covid-19 patients.
They said that administration and people of Ludhiana bow to them and would be always grateful. Later, they also handed over appreciation certificates among the workers.

Both Varinder Kumar Sharma and Rakesh Agrawal also went to Civil Hospital, DMCH, CMCH and other institutions and said all the doctors/nursing staff/ward attendants/helpers/ambulance drivers are the real heroes who have been playing a vanguard role to keep the pandemic at bay. They expressed hope that they would continue to perform exceptionally well until the war against contagion is not won.
