Wedding Joy Turns Into Tragedy: Man Dies in Road Accident While Returning After Sister's Farewell

Dharamsala, June 30, 2026: A joyous wedding celebration ended in unimaginable tragedy in the Jaswan-Paragpur Assembly constituency of Kangra district after a 30-year-old man lost his life in a horrific road accident while returning home following his sister's vidaai (farewell ceremony).
The deceased has been identified as Dinesh Sharma (30), son of Ghanshyam Sharma, a resident of Badhal village under Badi Panchayat. The accident occurred early Tuesday morning, just a few kilometres from his home, turning what had been a festive occasion into one of profound grief.
According to police, Dinesh had attended his sister's wedding in Talwara, Punjab, on Monday night. After the traditional farewell ceremony on Tuesday morning, he left for home alone in his Mahindra XUV  at around 5-6 a.m.
As he approached the Badhal forest area, the vehicle reportedly went out of control and overturned by the roadside. The impact was so severe that the SUV was extensively damaged, its airbags deployed, and the roof was completely crushed.
Passersby noticed the overturned vehicle and immediately rushed to the spot. They found Dinesh critically injured and covered in blood before shifting him to BBMB Hospital, Talwara. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the vehicle may have swerved after an animal suddenly crossed the road or that the driver may have briefly dozed off due to fatigue following the overnight wedding ceremonies. The exact cause will be established after a detailed investigation.
The untimely death has cast a pall of gloom over Badhal village and the surrounding area. Family members, who had only hours earlier celebrated the marriage of their daughter, were left devastated by the sudden loss of their son.
Former minister and Jaswan-Paragpur MLA Bikram Thakur expressed deep grief over the tragedy and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, praying for strength to help them endure the irreparable loss.
