Dharamshala, January 26, 2023: The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) today organized a brief ceremony to celebrate the 74th Republic Day of India in Dharamsala today. Sikyong(Political and Administrative head of Tibetan government in exile ), Penpa Tsering hoisted  the Indian national flag during the celebration in McLeodganj, Upper Dharamshala in Northern India.

The function was attended by senior leadership of CTA comprising Acting Chief Justice Commissioner Karma Damdul, Sikyong Penpa Tsering, Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang, Kalon Tharlam Dolma Changra, Kalon Norzin Dolma, Election and Public Service Commissioner Wangdue Tsering Pesur, Auditor General Pema Dadul Arya, Standing Committee members of the 17th Tibetan Parliament in Exile and the CTA’s senior civil servants.

Speaking to the media after the celebration, Sikyong Penpa Tsering stated, “Without the help and support of the government and people of India, we would not be where we are today. Through this function, we celebrate and enjoy with the government and the people of India, to whom we owe a deep gratitude.”

When asked about the supposition of a similar celebration for Tibetans in future, Sikyong said, “As we enjoy today’s celebration, we also long to return to Tibet and have a celebration that every Tibetan can be a part of and be proud of.”
