Ludhiana, October 16, 2026: Former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today visited the residence of slain Kabaddi player Tejpal Singh, who was brutally gunned down by gangsters. Accompanied by senior party leaders, Warring stood in solidarity with the bereaved family, offering condolences and support.
Later, addressing the media, Warring remarked, “This tragic incident occurred during the Tarn Taran election, and we had come even then to stand with the family. Now, AICC General Secretary in charge Punjab Congress Affairs Sachin Pilot has launched a Punjab yatra to reach out to families devastated by gangster violence. As part of that effort, I have come here today. What is most disturbing is that, till now, the family has received neither help nor justice from any government.”
Warring further stated, “Today we have come to the Jagroan assembly segment, which lies within my parliamentary constituency, to meet this family and share in their grief.”
Replying to a media query on Congress prospects in the upcoming Assembly elections, a confidant Warring said, “The position of the Congress is improving day by day. As per my assessment, we are moving towards forming the next government in Punjab,” while adding that the kind of tragic incidents that are happening daily with law and order collapse completely, it is not good for the Punjab.
Warring asserted that drug abuse has become a grave crisis confronting Punjab, afflicting households across the state. He said, “Governments have come and gone over five years, yet the problem remains unchanged — people still wonder whether drug addiction will ever end. The responsibility that should have been shouldered by the government is now being borne by ordinary citizens, especially the poor, who are sacrificing their lives. This raises a serious and urgent question before the Punjab government.”
Warring added, “Beyond other challenges, every individual in Punjab is suffering from two pressing issues — the drug menace and the collapse of law and order. The AAP regime has failed to tackle either. In these circumstances, people now look to Congress with hope that once it assumes power, Punjab will see good governance, peace restored and a drug free future. I have full faith that the people of Punjab have resolved to give Congress the opportunity to make the state prosperous once again.”
Warring said, “Drugs first entered Punjab during the Akali Dal’s tenure and since then the menace has only intensified. At that time, Bhagwant Mann was clean but today under his government the problem has multiplied fourfold. Earlier, drugs were present and we managed to contain them to some extent, but now the crisis has spiralled dramatically out of control.
Prominent among others present include former Punjab Minister Rakesh Pandey, former MLA Jagtar Singh Jagga, Senior Congress leaders Capt Sandeep Sandhu, Simaranjit Singh Bains, Pawan Dewan and president Ludhiana DCC (Rural) Major Singh Mullanpuri.
