Ludhiana, July 30: The Additional Director of Research (Natural Resources and Plant Health Management), Dr. T.S.Thind was given a warm farewell upon superannuation. The PAU Vice Chancellor, Dr. Baldev Singh Dhillon, while addressing a special farewell meeting attended by the University deans, directors and other officers referred Dr. Thind as a man of initiatives, who excelled in all fronts of his scientific career, adding that he not only carried out meaningful research and teaching but also made efforts to develop linkages with organizations within the country and abroad and also nurturing professional societies and journals.
Dr. Dhillon remembered the contributions of Dr. Thind in administration and research. He honoured Dr. Thind with memento and a shawl.
The participating officers appreciated Dr. Thind for his hard work, knowledge of the subject, helping nature, excellent human behaviour, dependability, etc. Later, the serving and retired faculty of Plant Pathology, staff members, students and faculty from different departments and outstations of PAU gave a befitting farewell to Dr. Thind. The former Head of Plant Pathology Department, Dr. S.S.Sokhi, shared his reminiscences of working together with Dr. Thind. Those who highlighted the significant achievements made by Dr. Thind included, Mr. Jang Bahadur Singh Sangha, Member, PAU Board of Management, Director of Research, Dr. S.S.Gosal, Dean, College of Agriculture, Dr. D.S.Cheema, Additional Director of Communication, Dr. Jagtar Singh Dhiman among others.
Sangha said that Dr. Thind always worked for the betterment of farming community. He appreciated the initiative of Dr. Thind in developing the decision support system for the management of late blight of potato.
Dr. Thind, owed his achievements due to the team work and expressed his gratitude to PAU for providing him the ideal working environment and facilities, his family and colleagues for cooperation. Dr. Thind asked the younger generation to believe in hard work, discipline and to have a focused approached in life, that he said have paid him a rich dividend. Dr. Thind served PAU in various capacities including Additional Director of Research (Natural Resources and Plant Health Management), Head of Department, Senior Plant Pathologist, Plant Pathologist and Assistant Plant Pathologist. He specializes in fungicidal resistance in plant pathogens and has authored 8 scientific books published by reputed publishers. His wife, Dr. Sanjeev Kaur Thind, was also present.
