Vigilance, training key to preventing fire accidents: HIRD Director Dr Chauhan

Nilokheri, October 16, 2026: A few moments of panic can turn a fire into a major disaster, making awareness and quick, informed action critical to saving lives, Haryana Institute of Rural Development director Dr Virender Singh Chauhan said during a fire safety training programme under the state-wide Seva Sankalp Abhiyan.

Dr Chauhan stressed that every employee must understand basic fire safety protocols and know how to respond during emergencies. He urged staff to remain calm, follow safety guidelines and avoid taking unnecessary risks, particularly in incidents involving LPG cylinders. He said fire safety was a shared responsibility and not merely the domain of the fire department.

Leading Fireman Pradeep Kumar and Fireman Sunil Kumar from the fire department demonstrated essential fire prevention measures, the proper use of firefighting equipment and precautions to be taken during emergencies. They advised employees to move to a safe location, alert the concerned authorities and seek assistance from trained firefighters when required.

HIRD accounts Officer Tarun Malik emphasised adherence to fire safety norms in office premises, while assistant professors Sushil Mehta and Kamaldeep Sangwan highlighted the importance of regular training in building preparedness and preventing avoidable damage.
