VIGILANCE NABS ASI TAKING BRIBE OF RS. 1.5 LAKH

Chandigarh, November 7, 2017: State Vigilance Bureau, during its ongoing campaign against corruption today nabbed an ASI Ramesh Chander red handed accepting bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh.

Disclosing this here an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said ASI Ramesh Chander posted at RTA office, Hoshiarpur was nabbed red handed on the complaint of Sukhminder Singh, Transporter of Guru Angad Dev Nagar, Khanna district Ludhiana. The complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the accused ASI has demanded ‘monthly’ (bribe) of Rs. 50,000 per vehicle per month to run his loaded trucks on the roads of Hoshiarpur district. He also asked the complainant to pay two previous monthly instalments of bribe amounting to Rs. 01 lakh and Rs. 50,000 for the current month.

After verifying his information, the Vigilance team laid a trap and the accused ASI was arrested on the spot taking bribe of Rs. 1.5 lakh from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. He informed that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against him at VB police station Jalandhar and further investigation was under progress.

The spokesperson said on search of his house the VB team found unaccounted cash of Rs. 6,27,970, old currency notes Rs. 6,500, Euros 300, American dollars 1980, blank cheques 28 of different banks, signed cheques 3, bank passbooks 10, documents of Breeza car and photocopies of 5 cheques of Oriental Bank of Commerce.
