Chandigarh, February 3, 2014: Vigilance Bureau, Punjab (VB) has nabbed two officials of Nagar Nigam, Ludhiana red handed with bribe money of Rs.25,000, which they have received as first installment to transfer the ancestral property.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the complainant Sahil Chhabra resident of Upkar Nagar, Civil Lines, Ludhiana has lodged a complained to the VB authorities that the property of his late father and his late uncle was to be transferred to his name in T.S.-I Register of Nagar Nigam. For this purpose, Harwinder Singh Bindra, House Tax Inspector of Zone-A, Nagar Nigam, Ludhiana received a sum of Rs.12,000 but gave receipt of Rs.4,600 only as prescribed fee. He also demands bribe amounting to Rs. 50,000 in two installments of Rs. 25,000 each for getting the work done.
The spokesperson said that the complainant went to Nagar Nigam Office to pay first installment of Rs.25,000 and Harwinder Singh deputed Balwinder Singh, Helper, Building Branch, Zone-A, Nagar Nigam, Ludhiana to collect the bribe money. Since, a trap was laid by Vigilance Bureau, Range Ludhiana headed by DSP Bikramjit Singh and a team of DSP Gurpreet Kaur Purewal Inspector Bhupinder Singh and Barjinder Singh, the accused Harwinder Singh and Balwinder Singh were arrested red-handed outside Nagar Nigam Office, while accepting the bribe money amounting to Rs. 25,000, which was recovered from the pocket of Helper Balwinder Singh in the presence of witnesses. In addition, money amounting to Rs.9,000, Rs.4,000 and Rs.2,500 wrapped in the forms of Nagar Nigam was also recovered from his pocket, which was apparently received by the accused from other persons as bribe money.
