Vigilance Bureau nabs Patwari red handed accepting bribe of Rs 15,000
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended Patwari Harkinder Singh posted at Revenue Office Payal district Ludhiana, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000.
Chandigarh, April 16, 2026: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended Patwari Harkinder Singh posted at Revenue Office Payal district Ludhiana, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by a resident of tehsil Payal district Ludhiana.
He said that the accused Patwari demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant in lieu of making correction in mutation of the complainant's land. In this connection, accused Patwari has already taken first installment of Rs 5,000 as bribe.
Unwilling to pay any illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau Economic Offence Wing Ludhiana. After a preliminary enquiry on his complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused Patwari was arrested red handed while accepting bribe money of Rs 15,000 from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses.
In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Economic Offence Wing Ludhiana and further investigation into this case is under progress.
