Vigilance Bureau nabs Assistant Registrar for accepting bribe of Rs. 1,00,000
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended Nikhil Garg Assistant Registrar Coperative Society Jagroan district Ludhiana who also holds additional charge of Doraha office, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 1,00,000/- at his residence in Patiala.
Chandigarh, 26 June, 2026: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended Nikhil Garg Assistant Registrar Coperative Society Jagroan district Ludhiana who also holds additional charge of Doraha office, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 1,00,000/- at his residence in Patiala.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Manager of a Coperative Society.
He informed that the complainant alleged that accused demanded bribe of Rs. five lakh in lieu of recommending his application for transfer to Doraha. After receiving the bribe money, accused Nikhil Garg put backdated signatures on today's entries in the proceeding book of the Cooperative Society Doraha regarding the complainant's transfer.
Furthermore, Accused demanded bribe money in the name of senior officers and he had also informed his senior officer of Cooperative Society after accepting the bribe money. The complainant had recorded the entire conversation regarding the demand of bribe.
Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, complainant approached the VB Economic Offence Wing Ludhiana. Acting on his complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused Assistant Registrar was arrested red handed while accepting bribe money of Rs 1,00,000/- from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses. The tainted currency notes were recovered from his possession.
In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB EOW police station Ludhiana and further investigation into this case is under progress.
