Vicky Middukhera Foundation to plant nearly 50 thousand saplings in Punjab & region in 2025

Mohali, July 21, 2025: The Vicky Middukhera Foundation will commemorate the birth anniversary of the visionary student leader late Vicky Middukhera, on Saturday- July 26, 2025, by kick-starting a large-scale tree plantation campaign aimed at promoting environmental sustainability across northern India. It is notable that Vicky Middukhera is credited with making Student Organisation of India(SOI), the students' political unit of Akali Dal a force to reckon with in student politics of Punjab University, Chandigarh."Vicky had single handedly made SOI a successful party in PU. He was a game changer in student politics," said late Vicky Middukhera’s elder brother Ajaypal Middukhera while announcing details of the initiative named ‘Go Green 2025’ to mark Vicky's birth anniversary. It is pertinent to mention here that Vicky Middukhera was snatched away by the cruel hands of destiny at a very young age.
"The plantation drive will be a tribute to Vicky who was a very popular student leader respected by the entire students' community of PU," said Ajayal Middukhera, while addressing the media.
Addressing a press meet, Ajaypal Middukhera, President of the Foundation, unveiled plans for this ambitious green project. “Vicky was deeply committed to the empowerment of youth and for a cleaner & greener environment. Through ‘Go Green 2025’, we continue to fulfil his work- credo of taking action to achieve the well-being of society. I am sure, the campaign will be a meaningful step toward a greener and healthier Mohali, and a befitting tribute to the memory of Vicky who stood and worked unstintingly for welfare of others -mainly the youth and for an equitable society,” he stated.
Ajaypal Middukhera informed that Vicky Middukhera foundation was established in remembrance of his brother Vicky Middukhera. "Seeing his love and passion towards nature and to maintain his legacy we last year on his birthday- 26/07/2024 started a plantation drive under which we have planted more than 15 thousand plants in several regions of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan , Uttarakhand and Jammu."
He added that this year under the ‘Go Green 2025’ project we have even more ambitious plans. “While last year, we reached almost every district of Punjab, in 2025, we are scaling up — with a target of planting nearly 50,000 saplings across Punjab and all the other states mentioned. We plan to reach a figure of 1 lakh saplings in the near future, ” Ajaypal added. Ajaypal Middukhera informed that the Foundation boasts of about 20,000 dedicated volunteers spread across the geographies being targeted. "We are confident that we will achieve our aim of large scale afforestation in the region, as last year we had got an overwhelming response in the region where we had carried out green drives," added Ajaypal Middukhera.
Notably, the Foundation will hold awareness rides along the Aerocity area (Airport Road) to make people realise the importance of green cover to fight climate change -- which is a major challenge facing human kind not just in Punjab or India but even the world.
“We are implementing a major afforestation campaign in areas of Mohali where there is a need for greenery and trees. The Foundation has also identified land in Chapar Chiri which is in dire need of greenery; an afforestation drive will be held in the area. We want to make Mohali a place where one can breathe fresh air and live in a pollution free environment,” said Ajaypal Middukhera.
It is noteworthy that the Vicky Middukhera Foundation, established to carry forward the ideals of late Vicky Middukhera,has undertaken several impactful social initiatives across the region.
The Foundation has carried out drives against drugs and also de-addiction awareness campaigns in collaboration with rehabilitation centres to combat substance abuse among the youth in Punjab; it has also successfully conducted free vocational training camps and workshops aimed at helping young people enhance their skills and improve employability; moreover,blood donation camps have been held & free medical check-up camps have been organised by Vicky Middukhera Foundation in collaboration with other prominent social organisations like the renowned Sarbat Da Bhala CharitableTrust. The Foundation has helped students from Economically Weaker Sections(EWS) through distribution of free school supplies, provision of scholarships, and even mentoring programs. The Foundation has been promoting civic responsibility through Swachh Bharat-inspired cleanliness campaigns in villages and towns. It is pertinent to mention here that the Foundation under the stewardship of Ajaypal Middukhera had also carried out flood relief work in rural areas of Mohali , under which the Foundation had got repaired, roofs of some village houses who's roofs had caved in.
